Principles Day 27 – The Sacred Flame

Day Twenty Seven — The Second Note – Love (continued)

The Third Order is a Christian community whose members, though varied in race, education, and character, are bound into a living whole through the love we share in Christ. This unity of all who believe in him will become, as our Lord intended, a witness to the world of his divine mission. In our relationships with those outside the Order, we show the same Christ-like love, and gladly give of ourselves, remembering that love is measured by sacrifice.

If lockdown’s taught us anything, it is
that random acts of kindness never were
the sacred or exclusive gift of us
who follow Christ. That sacred spark we share
with all God’s children kindles the desire
to help: to shop, to call, to smile, to chat.
We are co-guardians of the holy fire,
with all who keep the flame from going out.

We’re no more moral, no less prone to sin;
so what is it we offer to the world?
The unearned privilege of having been
allowed a glimpse of Christ’s glory revealed;
the mountain vision, radiant, dazzling sign;
transfigured beauty, human and divine.
